This is the second of three postings on 2014 pricing. The first post presented 2014 pricing information for First-Class Mail® postcards, letters, and flats. In this post, I’ll share with you the pricing for USPS® First-Class Mai® Parcels.
If your mailpiece isn’t a postcard, letter, or a flat (large envelope), then it’s a parcel. You may be surprised to find out that “parcels” are not just big boxes. Many mailers send small parcels in all classes of mail. Parcels offer some of the best value for your postage dollars, especially First-Class Mail parcels. First-Class Mail parcels may weigh up to 13 ounces. If over 13 ounces, the parcel will be rated as Priority Mail.
Unlike a First-Class letter, First-Class Mail parcels may be combined with USPS Tracking. First-Class Mail parcels can offer the same delivery standard as First Class Mail with the added benefit of tracking. If choosing the electronic version of USPS Tracking, this feature is offered at no cost. The 2014 Retail price for USPS Tracking with First Class Parcels will be $1.05.
Let’s say you have a seven ounce First Class Mail parcel to mail and you want Tracking. If you use a Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box, come January 26th, the cost to mail the Parcel will be $5.80 retail or $5.25 Commercial Base Pricing (CBP). USPS Tracking is offered at no additional cost as well as $50 of ‘free’ insurance. This same seven ounce parcel, originating in 94112 (San Francisco, CA) and destinating in 19702 (Newark, Delaware) would cost $3.04 Retail (January 26 pricing). USPS Tracking, electronic version is available at no cost. Retail USPS Tracking would add will add $1.05. Either way, the First Class Mail Parcel postage cost plus USPS Tracking is still less than Priority Mail postage, even if CBP is obtained. Something to consider. Also notice in the chart below that the postage prices for one, two and three ounces parcels are the same. What does this mean? Insert more content up to three ounces without paying more. Great value!
